These Are Catholic Colleges & Universities?

This blog is part of a series to help parents and students understand if a Catholic College or University might be a good fit.

Students and parents tend to know of the Colleges and Universities that are “Brand Name” Catholic – those named after Saints or The University of Notre Dame, Georgetown University, The Catholic University of America or Villanova.

However, did you know the following schools listed below are also Catholic schools?,

  • Boston College – Excellent programs in computer science, education, history & business, pre-law, music – and 100% graduate in 4 years!

  • Duquesne University – Accelerated PA and PT programs, excellent in Health Sciences, Marketing, Athletic training

  • St. Louis University – Aviation studies, strong business, entrepreneurship, education, mechanical engineering,

  • Creighton – Strong programs in e-commerce, marketing and has their own Dental School. Good pre-med program for B students

  • Providence College – Member of the Big East. Strong Hockey, Basketball and Cross Country programs. Considered a top 100 school for good value

  • Fairfield University – Great Biology and pre-law programs (Harvard accepts a good number of their students). Offers club skiing and snowboarding and known to be generous with merit

  • Lewis University – Offers Air Traffic Control studies and a post-baccalaureate pre-med program for those students who forgot to take science in undergrad.

  • Marquette University – Offers Athletic Training, Direct Entry PT. Strength in Advertising/PR; Criminology, Education, English, Construction Management

  • University of Dayton – Strength in programs for Engineering, Education, Entrepreneurship, Musical Therapy and PT. Known to be generous in giving money to students without financial need.

  • Siena University – Good private college for the Average student. The University offers an Early Assurance to Medical School program for qualified students.

  • Santa Clara University – A school that experts say seeing the campus is key. Santa Clara offers strength in programs including computer science and game design.

  • Seattle University – Strong in Math and Computer Science – Near the beach!

  • Stonehill College – Near Boston. Known for Peace Corp Volunteerism. Strength in the program for Criminology

  • University of Dallas – Dallas has an innovative and extensive 2-year core curriculum and is known as a Great Book College which emphasizes reading the classics. One of the highest study abroad program participation rates in the country.

  • The University of Portland – Considered a top Good Value College

  • The University of San Diego – Offers a January experience that affords students opportunities for projects on and off-campus, foreign study, and internships

  • University of San Francisco – Also a Great Books College

  • The University of Scranton- Described as a Hidden Gem with strength regarding the academics and social experience but not well known.
