Since many CPC students have an interest in UMD-College Park, we thought to unpack what test-optional means for the Class of 2025

Each school's common data set will provide students with a "road-map" as to the relative level of importance of academic and non-academic factors in the school's holistic review.

If the school is test optional, do most students submit scores anyways?

While most schools do not report admission by test-optional status, we can look at enrolled students that submitted scores. According to the 2021-2022 common datat set, somewhere between 34% to 43% of enrolled students submitted scores with a 50th percentile range of 1340 - 1490. This is a data point we will keep an eye on for the 2022-2023 common data set when reported

What are limited enrollment programs?

The following UMD programs are limited enrollment programs, which means there are more students applying for these programs than roster spots available. Students applying to limited enrollment programs should anticipate strong academic profiles are necessary for admission. Students also have the option on their application to select a second major from which they may transfer into the LEP once a current student.

What are recommendations for creating a strong academic application for UMD?

Take rigorous high school courses and full academic schedules through the Senior Year

Realize that UMD does not look at Senior year grades for early action applications - finish strong Junior Year

Consider preparing for the SAT/ACT even if the school is test-optional to add depth to your academic profile

AP scores can be considered in the academic review. Know UMD's minimum score requirement and strive to earn those scores on your May AP tests. Spoiler alert, most AP courses need a 4 but there are a few 3 score courses
