Academic Common Market - Paperwork Goes In!

We love the Academic Common Market! Here is what you need to know:

What is the Academic Common Market?

Suppose you are a resident in one of the participating Southern Regional Educational Board consortium states, AND your student is accepted to an Academic Common Market major. In that case, you are eligible to pay in-state tuition.

How do I submit the paperwork to receive in-state tuition?

States vary on the dates they will receive the paperwork. You can find your state contacts here. I recommend early submission to process all paperwork easily before the deadline. Review and confirmation take 4 - 6 weeks.

What paperwork do I need to submit?

For most states, you will need a copy of the school's letter showing admission to the specific academic common market major, a copy of the student and parent(s) driver's license, and a copy of one in-state motor vehicle registration.

How do I research which majors are covered in the Academic Common Market?

You can see the programs here. Students can be creative. Remember, general education credits are also billed as in-state for most Academic Common Market schools except Auburn University and the University of Georgia. Some examples of creativity, using an MD student as an example, are below.

Are you interested in the health sciences, perhaps applying to medical school or a graduate-level program? Look at UGA's genetics program, USC's pharmacy program, and UK's medical and biotechnology program. The major curriculum may give you the science courses you need.

Are you interested in the environmental sciences? Jump onto LSU's Natural Resource Ecology and Management/Wildlife Ecology or UK's forestry major.

What about marketing and communication? Check out UGA's agriculture communication programs, Coastal Carolina's major in digital culture and design, and LSU's program in political communication with a concentration in mass communication.

Again, the average turnaround time for confirmation so that your student's school processes your tuition bill to reflect in-state is 4-6 weeks. Don't wait.
