This list is our read on quality traditional and moderately-sized private colleges with financial strength and generous with merit scholarships for A and B students...We used the following filters:

• Top rankings for quality based on outcomes, investment in academic resources, student engagement and diversity – Top 30% according to WSJ/Times Higher Education Methodology

• Minimum 50% 4-year graduation rate

• Forbe’s November 2019 Financial Health Grade – at least a C rating, preferably higher

• High ratings for merit scholarship and/or need-based grants – 4 or 5-star rating

• % of Revenue from Auxiliary Enterprises (Room & Board) < 20%

• Endowment per full-time student– Median or greater for the school’s category
