When should an advanced math student take his/her first SAT?  Below is some guidance on a recommended test prep timeline for advanced math students.

Advanced track – Complete Geometry & Algebra 2 by end of Freshman Year – 1st SAT Spring Sophomore Year

Honors track – Complete Geometry & Algebra 2 by end of Sophomore Year – 1st SAT August before or Fall of Junior Year

Standard track – Complete Geometry & Algebra 2 by end of Junior Year – 1st SAT Spring of Junior Year

Remember, your student needs to be ready to put in the time and energy to practice questions and learn strategies.  Investing in test prep too early can be a waste of resources.  Therefore, you should consider your student’s schedule and the optimum time he/she has to invest in practice.
