Known for being very selective, this university shares many cross-applications with the Ivies and Johns Hopkins. This beautiful campus, tucked away in a quiet corner of the city bordered by a river, boasts landmark buildings with ornate appointments; it emits an atmosphere of academia. U of R offers a unique 5th year program which will allow a graduate to study one more year tuition free, if they study something other than their major. They host a conservatory music program in their Eastman School of Music campus and their most popular majors include; Business, Social Sciences, Visual/Performing Arts, and Engineering. Rochester has one of only a few engineering programs in the country that focus on optic fibers, laser engineering and fusion research. There are also many combined programs where students can matriculate into medical school and other graduate programs in business, education and engineering. The student population is diversified and 100% live on campus(69% are from out of state.)The Yellow Jackets, as they are called, play D3 NCAA sports such as, football, golf, lacrosse, squash and crew. This university offers impressive academics in a beautiful traditional setting. The winter weather may be a bit harsh, but buildings connect underground helping to minimize your time outside when those times persist. The airport is practically across the highway and offers an easy commute from out of state areas. It is easy to understand why the students seem so upbeat and lucky to be there.
