Many students on the University of Delaware campus will tell you that this large state school has an incredible way of feeling much smaller than one would expect. Introductory level classes may be in a lecture hall of 200 or more students, this in not the norm for most students. This beautiful suburban campus boasts both a charming history and an innovatively “green” future. Campus tour guides explain the alluring “kissing arches” which separate the campus into what used to be the male and female sections of dormitories. One can imagine all of the college sweethearts kissing under the arches each night to say farewell. Many original brick buildings line the “green”, a long strip of lush grass and trees and usually swarmed with students enjoying the weather. The academic focus of this school is made apparent year round on campus. Delaware has many strong and engaging programs of study including business, agriculture and natural resources, hotel and restaurant management, and education. The college offers a popular month long winter session, from January to February, which gives students more flexibility as they seek their degrees. Delaware’s strong academics do not take any focus away from the energetic school spirit of the Fightin’ Blue Hen. With a highly entertaining mascot named YouDee, who placed 1st at the 2009 Mascot National Championships, and a recent star alumnus such as Joe Flacco, students are proud to represent their university. The great location of the University of Delaware is also very appealing to students. Main Street is a quaint one-way road that runs through main campus. This street has every restaurant, store, boutique, or business that a student could ever need all within a short walk from class. Delaware is also favorably located within short traveling distances of Wilmington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and even Washington, D.C. This gives students great city resources while still enjoying the comforts of a suburban community.
